Juanita Barbour Strain
AIKEN, SC: Juanita Barbour Strain, 88, beloved wife of Coe P. Strain, died Wednesday, May 06, 2009 at Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center in Aiken, SC.
A native of Durham, NC, Mrs. Strain was a daughter of the late Z. O. and Callie Davie Barbour. She lived her entire life in Durham before moving to Aiken 7 years ago. She was a retired underwriter with Home Security Life Insurance Co. in Durham for 44 years. She was a former member of Park View Baptist Church in Durham for 48 years, and was currently a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Aiken.
Survivors include her husband Coe, a son, Chuck (Shellie) Strain, Aiken, two grandsons, Jake Peacock, Jacksonville, FL and Drew Peacock, Mobile, AL. She was preceded in death by a grandson, John Peacock.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the mausoleum beginning at 1 PM prior to the service.

Caroline F. Quesenberry
DURHAM: Mrs. Caroline F. Quesenberry, 81, went home to be with her Lord Saturday. She was a resident of Durham for most of her life and retired from Belk’s Department Store after 30 years of employment. Mrs. Quesenberry was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and enjoyed attending Bible Studies and Christian Women’s Conferences.
She is survived by her son, Fred Quesenberry and wife, Alice; two grandchildren, Chip Quesenberry of Durham and Ryan Quesenberry of New York, NY; a great granddaughter, Destiny Quesenberry; and a niece, Judith Belba of Ohio.
A Memorial Service will be conducted Friday 11:00 a.m. at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with the Rev. Earl Echols officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that friends make memorial contributions to Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1210 Pleasant Green Rd., Hillsborough NC 27278.
Catherine E. Turner
Durham: Mrs. Catherine E. Turner, 76, and her son, Larry Laws, 58, both residents of Russell Rd. passed away Friday, May 1, 2009 at the NC Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill.
Mrs. Turner is survived by two sisters, Dot Cagle and Mae Carden; and a brother, Alfred Burch.
A graveside service will be held Friday, 3 p.m. at New Sharon United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family is being assisted in Durham by Clements Funeral Service, Inc.

DURHAM: Mrs. Rosalie Paolercio, 96, of 1316 Elmset Lane, died Saturday night at UNC Hospitals. Mrs. Paolercio was born in Newark, NJ, the daughter of the late Rose Imbroglia Leanza and the late Joseph Leanza. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Kerr Drugs. Mrs. Paolercio was preceded in death by her husband, August “Gus” Paolercio.
Mrs. Paolercio is survived by a daughter, Carol A. Ramirez and husband Reynaldo of Durham; sons, Joseph A. Paolercio and wife Maria of Coral Gables, FL and Frank J. Paolercio and wife Pat of Dumfries, Virginia; brothers, Fred Leanza, Frank Leanza; sister, Connie Khun; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be conducted Thursday 11 a.m. at Holy Infant Catholic Church with Father Joe Brennen presiding. Burial will take place at a later date at Southern Memorial Park in N. Miami, FL. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. MR. JAMES B. COLE
DURHAM: Mr. James B. Cole, Jr., 80, died Sunday evening at Rose Manor Health Care Center. Mr. Cole was born in Durham, the son of the late James Baxter Cole, Sr. and the late Kathleen Pittman Cole. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Bieman and Rowell Mechanical Contractors. Mr. Cole was a member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church.
Mr. Cole is survived by his wife, Anne Holmes Cole; daughter, Cynthia Cole of Birmingham, AL; sons, James Baxter Cole, III of Timberlake and Michael Amon Cole of Macon, GA; four grandchildren, Allan Cole, Elaina Cole, Travis Field and Bobbi Stanovich; and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with the Rev. Jeff McCarthy officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

DURHAM: Ms. Jessica Gabriele Michele Pannachia Ellis, 28, died Friday at her home. Mrs. Ellis was born in Lexington, the daughter of JoAnne Dickerson and Jerry Eugene Pannachia, II, both of Durham. She was employed By Brame School and College Products.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a son, Jared Landon Ellis; brothers, Chuck Wagoner, Jerry Pannachia, III, Mike Pannachia and Jon Pannachia; and Jeffrey Ellis.
Funeral services will be held Thursday 11 a.m. at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Rabon officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham or friends may stop by and sign the guestbook from 2 to 5 p.m.

DURHAM: Mrs. Beatrice Skaggs, 90, of 1202 Thompson Rd., died Thursday night at her home. Mrs. Skaggs was born in Montgomery Co., the daughter of the late Evanie Jane Morgan Britt and the late Kenneth Daniel Britt. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Erwin Mills. Mrs. Skaggs was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Skaggs is survived by her husband, Delmas Harry Skaggs; daughters, Patricia Ann Ellis, Nancy Roberson and husband, Thomas, all of Durham, Martha Cates and husband, Tony, of Chatham and Brenda Long of Durham; sons, George Hinson and wife, Brenda, of Harkers Island, Sam Hinson of Selah, WA and Dan Hinson and wife, Delana of Youngsville; step children, Shelby Sweet, Gerald Skaggs and Angie, all of Ansted, WV, Harry Skaggs and Jean, of Norfolk, VA, Bernie Willis of Edmond, WV, Brenda Thompson of Buckhannon, WV, Delmas Skaggs of Junction City, KS, Robert Skaggs and Annette of Mebane, Vickie Mullins and husband Doug of Fayetteville and Rita King and Rodney of Oak Grove, KY; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 27 step grandchildren, 42 step great grandchildren and 6 step great great grandchildren.

ROBINSON O. EVERETT
Beloved Law professor leaves unique and indelible legacy on the legal profession and the community.
DURHAM: Robinson O. Everett, Duke University professor of law and senior judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, passed away during his sleep on June 12, 2009. He was 81. Mr. Everett was born in Durham the son of the late Kathrine Robinson and Reuben Oscar Everett.
Robinson was one of the country’s most prominent and respected authorities on military justice. He served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces for 12 years, 10 as chief judge. His work as counsel to the Subcommittee on Constitutional Rights of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary in the 1960s helped lead to legislation that modernized the U.S. military court system.
A beloved member of the Duke Law School community, Robinson served on its faculty for 53 years. Among other courses, he taught military justice, national security, criminal law, sentencing, and criminal procedure. Throughout his tenure at Duke, he was a cheerful presence and caring mentor to students, many of whom sought his advice on work and life. Everett was also an active member in the life of his hometown, participating in numerous civic, fraternal and professional organizations. He also served for decades as an elder at First Presbyterian Church, where he was baptized.
Robinson is survived by his wife Lynn and three sons: Robinson Everett, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Durham; Greg Everett of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Luke Everett and wife Sherry Honeycutt of Durham; and three grandchildren Emma Claire, Henry and Catherine.
The Funeral Service is scheduled for Tuesday 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joseph Harvard, Rev. Ed Henegar and Rev. Marilyn Hedgpeth officiating. A Reception will immediately follow the service in the Watts Hill Fellowship Hall. Family will attend an Interment at Cross Creek Cemetery in Fayetteville, NC at 3:30 PM. They will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00 to 10:00 PM at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

MR. MARTIN HERBERT MAYNOR, JR.
DURHAM: Mr. Martin Herbert Maynor, Jr., born July 10, 1924, died early Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Hillcrest Convalescent Center. He was the son of the late Roxie Poe Maynor and the late Martin Herbert Maynor, Sr. Mr. Maynor was educated in the Durham Public Schools and joined the U. S. Army Air Force in 1942. He was sent to Izah Del Gada Trade School in New Orleans to be an aircraft mechanic. Mr. Maynor was in charge of B24 Maintenance at Westover Field, Springfield, MA. He was then transferred to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro until his discharge in 1945. He became employed at Durham City Garage as a blacksmith, welder, mechanic and supervisor. In 1946 he married Catherine Louise Medlin and had two children. Mr. Maynor was an active Cub Scout leader at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. His support was sought by many politicians as he always played an active role in that arena. He attended leadership school at N. C. State University and was presented an award by the Labor Union for increasing their membership by large numbers. Mr. Maynor served on the Operation Breakthrough Board of Directors in 1978, was precinct chairman of the Holt School Democratic Party and president of Local # 1194 Labor Union and Vice President of Durham Central Labor Union.
Martin was always known by his sense of humor and positive attitude. He was kind to his fellow man and will be remembered by all. After retiring, he continued his lawn mower repair business in his garage and played golf twice a week with the seniors. His grandchildren and great grandchildren will play with the golf clubs he so lovingly shortened for them to use. We’ll love and miss you always “Pops”.
Mr. Maynor is survived by a son, Teddy Martin Maynor and friend, Deb McCallum, of Durham; granddaughter, Elizabeth Maynor Ramos and husband, Sgt. Rudy Ramos of Havelock, NC and great granddaughter, Hailey Elizabeth Kopp; and daughter, Myra Maynor Fogleman of Durham and grandson, Vann Michael Fogleman and wife, Laila, of Wilmington and great grandson, Cody Edward Fogleman and granddaughter, Jana Lianne Fogleman, of Wilmington.
Funeral services will be held Monday 11 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. ISAAC HOLT “IKE” TERRY, JR
BAHAMA: Mr. Isaac Holt “Ike” “I. T.“, “Ity” Terry Jr., a resident of Bahama, died Thursday evening at his home. Mr. Terry was a lifelong resident of Durham County, son of the late Isaac H. Terry Sr. and Lillian Lunsford Terry. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Terry was an elder of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness and a graduate of Duke University. Prior to retirement, he represented Durham County Farm Bureau Insurance.
Surviving is his wife, Ennis Mae Thompson Terry; two daughters, Robin Terry Angeli of Boiling Spring Lakes and Judy Terry Catlin of Bahama; two sons, Michael Thompson Terry of Raleigh and Tony Lee Terry of Bahama; a brother, Harold Knight Terry of Miami, FL; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Terry was preceded in death by a daughter, Wendy Terry Harris; and brothers, Lewis Isaac Terry and James Lee Terry.
A Graveside service will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens by Elder David Sineath and Elder Joe Hawkins. The family will receive friends at Clements Funeral Home Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Mark David Terry, Kevin Scott Catlin, Paul Blake Terry, Bryan Tate Catlin, Alex Brock Terry, Michael Caine Noell and Tommy Wayne Noell.

MRS. RUBY WHEELER DANIEL MIZE
DURHAM: Mrs. Ruby Wheeler Daniel Mize, 88, of Emerald Pond Lane, Durham, NC died Wednesday at her home. Ruby was born to the late Josephine Moss Wheeler and the late Geoffrey Thaxter Wheeler of Creedmoor in Granville County. Ruby was a member of Yates Baptist Church.
She was married to Ralph Morrison Daniel and they lived and worked in Roanoke, VA until moving to Durham in 1983, where they made their home until Ralph’s death in 1989. She was later married to Willard Mize of Durham, where they continued to live until Willard’s death in 1996. Ruby was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leland Herndon Wheeler of Durham and Graham Thaxter Wheeler of Asheville and his wife, Mary Lee Wheeler.
Survivors include three sisters, Janie Wheeler Diehl of Durham, Josephine Lyon (Al) of Creedmoor and Nancy Rogers (Robert) of Butner; one brother, Gerald Wayne Wheeler (Margie) of Durham; and ten nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister in law, Mary Claire Wheeler of Durham.
Visitation will be held Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. Funeral services will be held Friday 11 a.m. at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with the Rev. Don Gordon and the Rev. Danny Green officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor, NC. Casket bearers will be her nephews, Steve Wheeler, Richard Lyon, Mark Lyon, Wally Diehl, Tony Diehl, Brad Wheeler, Brian Wheeler and Judd Wheeler.

BAHAMA: Mr. Oliver Edison “Ed” Ames, 73, of Bahama N.C., died Wednesday night at his home. Mr. Ames was born in Sandstone, WV, the son of the late Cynthia Clarice Fox Ames and the late John Ernest Ames. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He was employed in Durham County and then later retired from Orange County as a Tax Appraiser. Mr. Ames was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and the Alvis Crabtree Sunday School Class for 37 years. He served as Sunday School secretary and a Deacon for a number of years. Mr. Ames was a graduate of NC State Governments Employees Association, Lee Institute and Real Estate Principle and Practices. He was a devoted family man and was a gifted Bluegrass musician and he was well known for his sense of humor. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Regina Ames Woody and a sister, Minnie Ames.
Mr. Ames is survived by his wife, Agnes Ames; son, Bryan Keith Ames; daughter, Reva Ames Perry; and grandchildren, Jessie Woody, Brittany Perry, Lindsey Perry and Sterling Perry.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 2 p.m. at Ridgecrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Chasteen and the Rev. Bill Ferguson officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 12 to 1:45 p.m. at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Burial will take place at a later date at the Richmond Family Cemetery in Sandstone, WV.

DURHAM: Mr. Raymond Laws, age 70, died Saturday morning at Duke Hospice, Hock Family Pavilion.. Mr. Laws was a farmer and was employed by Dixie Lawn Service. He was preceded in death by his mother, Virgie Winston Laws; and father, Ed Laws.
Mr. Laws is survived by his daughter, Darlene Parrish; son, Ronnie Laws; sisters, Pandora Laws Frazier, Bessie Crumpler, and Lula Mae Grogan; grandchildren, Bradley Parrish, Christopher Parrish, and William Jones; and great grandchild, Allysa McKenzie Pernell-Parrish.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am at Little River Presbyterian Church Cemetery by Pastor Rick Finley. The family will receive friends at Clements Funeral Home on Monday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 p.m.
MRS. HELEN LLOYD NICHOLS
DURHAM: Mrs. Helen Lloyd Nichols, 93, of Durham N.C., died Saturday evening at Durham Regional Hospital. Mrs. Nichols was born in Guilford County, NC, the daughter of the late Flara Huffstickler Parrish and the late Thomas Arnold Parrish. She worked for Burlington Industries 44 years before retiring. She was also a life long member of Greystone Baptist Church.
Mrs. Nichols is survived by her husband, Robert Dallas Nichols, Jr; daughter, Nancy Lloyd Tuck of Durham, NC; and grandchildren, Cathy Staples Stutts and husband Jimmy, Charles Staples Jr., and wife Beth, Karen Hart, Carol Leigh Cox, ten great grand children, and four great great grandchildren.

DURHAM: Mrs. Joan Walsh, 76, died at her home surrounded by her family Friday afternoon. Prior to her retirement Joan was employed as a secretary at Immaculata Catholic School. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. Joan was involved with many organizations including, Meals on Wheels, Catholic Daughters, and Durham Civitan Club. Mrs. Walsh is preceded in death by her mother, Irene Odorfer; father, Joseph Odorfer; husband, George W. Walsh; daughter, Barbara Walsh Wyngaarden; and uncle, Jerry Klueg.
Mrs. Walsh is survived by her daughters, Susan Walsh Hendrix and husband Sam; Linda Walsh Cirvello and husband Joe; Deborah Walsh Bonsignore and husband Stephen; Jennifer Walsh Lee and husband Gary; sons, George Walsh and Muriel; Michael Walsh and wife Robin ; Joseph Walsh and wife Renee’; Robert Walsh and wife Jennifer; granddaughters, Jessica, Rachel, Anna, Samantha, Emma Rae, Nicolette, Maia, and Peyton; grandsons, Jimmy, George, Toby, and Joseph; son-in-law James Wyngaarden and wife Elizabeth.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Tuesday at 11 AM. Burial will follow at St. Matthew Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at Clements Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 8 PM, a vigil service will be held at 7pm during visitation. CREEDMOOR: Mr. Mike Sanford, 46, died Wednesday at Durham Regional Hospital. Mr. Sanford was born in Vance Co., the son of Betty Jean Nicholson Sanford and Lloyd Cecil Sanford. He was employed by Clegg’s Pest Control.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sanford is survived by sisters, Lisa Sanford and Linda Browning.

DURHAM: Helen Page King, 85, passed away Thursday morning at Duke University Medical Center. Mrs. King is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, C.B. “Boone” King; mother, Jessie McCollum Hamlet; father, Thomas Hamlet; and brother, Harold Hamlet. Helen was born in Rockingham Co. She was raised in Chatham Co. where she graduated from Pittsboro High School. Mrs. King resided in Durham with her husband for most of her life. Mrs. King retired from Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company following 30 years of employment. Mrs. King was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church.
Mrs. King is survived by her sons, Donald King and wife, Alaine, and Michael King, all of Durham; two grandsons; two granddaughters; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral services will be held on Saturday, 2pm at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Dr. Harry Byrd officiating. The visitation is scheduled Friday evening from 6-8pm at Clements Funeral Home in Durham and at other times at the home of Michael King, 3905 Garrett Rd. MRS. SHIRLEY WOOD BRADFORD
HILLSBOROUGH: Mrs. Shirley Wood Bradford, 86, of Hillsborough died Tuesday at UNC Hospitals. Mrs. Bradford was born in Hampden Co., MA, the daughter of the late Lillian Hooker Wood and the late Robert Wood. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Donald Robert Bradford. Shirley was fun loving, caring, courageous and capable beyond words; to her family “A National Treasure”.
Mrs. Bradford is survived by a daughter, Susan Ellen Bradford, M.D.; a son, Donald Robert Bradford, II; and four grandchildren, Donna Bradford, Cheryl Elia, Valerie Lund and Rachael Bradford; and six great grandchildren, Shayla, Lauren, Michael, twins Grace and Noah and the youngest, Sydney.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30 PM- 8:00 PM at Clements Funeral Home in Hillsborough. A private family service is planned.

DURHAM: Mr. John Stallard, 49, died Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Durham Regional Hospital. He was employed by John J. Kirlin as a plumber.
Mr. Stallard is survived by a daughter, Brittany Anna Nicole Stallard.
A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday 12 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.
MRS. ANNIE LOIS RIGSBEE
DURHAM: Mrs. Annie Lois Rigsbee, 90, of 3521 Angier Ave., died Monday night at her home. Mrs. Rigsbee was born in Chatham Co., the daughter of the late Blanch Nash Mims and the late Early Clyde Mims. Prior to her retirement she was employed by Erwin Cotton Mills. Mrs. Rigsbee was a former member of Branson Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Rigsbee Hamlet; a son, William Jarvis Rigsbee, Jr.; and ten brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Rigsbee is survived by sons, Roger Rigsbee and wife, Cindy, and their special daughter Beth, and Bobby Rigsbee and wife, Socorro, and David Rigsbee; daughters, Betsy Rigsbee Cox, Carol Rigsbee Hearn and husband, Johnny and Donna Rigsbee Carden and husband, Johnny; nineteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

DURHAM: Mrs. Rebecca “Lynn” Jones Burns, 62, of Durham passed away Wednesday August 5 at Durham Regional Hospital. Mrs. Burns was born in Durham to the late Judith Ann Bunn Jones and William Theodore Jones, Jr.
Mrs. Burns went to Immaculata School, and graduated from Durham High in 1964. She then attended Watts School of Nursing and graduated in 1967. She was employed at Watts Hospital and later at Durham Regional Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Berry Burns of the home; son, Jimmy Jones of Timberlake, NC; daughter, Carol Boothe and husband, Jimmy of Carmel, IN; grandchildren, Kirsten and Justin Hawley of Carmel, IN; brother, Mike Jones and wife, Linda of Greenville, TN; sisters, Carol Holleman and husband, Raymond of Cedar Grove, NC; and Pat Lobeck of Wake Forest, NC; sister-in-law, Belita Helms and husband, Larry of Fayetteville, NC; brother-in-law, Lewis Burns and wife, Nancy of Durham, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Rev. Phil Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.
Lynn was a very loving and caring person who was loved and will missed by everyone who knew her.

DURHAM: Mrs. Myrtle Tilley Jackola, 83, of Durham, passed away at home Wednesday evening. She was born in Durham, the daughter of the late Dora Adams Tilley, and Fred Clay Tilley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Junior Jackola, a brother, LeRoy Tilley, and a granddaughter, Heather Jackola.
Mrs. Jackola was employed for 42 years, as a machine operator at Liggett and Myers Tobacco Co.
She is survived by her four sons, Randy Jackola and wife, JoAnn of Durham; Dwight Jackola and wife, Dee of Hillsborough; Doug Jackola of Durham; and Mark Jackola and wife, Donna of Bahama, NC; and a brother, Clyde Tilley; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren
A funeral service will be held at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham on Monday, August 10, at 11am, followed by a burial at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6-8pm at Clements Funeral Home in Durham, and other times at the home of Randy and JoAnn.
After retirement in 1985, Myrtle dedicated herself to her friends who were in rest homes and friends who could no longer drive themselves to do their errands. She faithfully served others and her family until her illness. She was very active in her church, Homestead Heights, and was a member there since 1966. She also enjoyed participating in a square dancing group and loved working in her yard with her flowers. She was a wonderful cook and we all especially enjoyed her banana pudding and other treats that she prepared for her family, friends, and neighbors. We will miss her dearly and thank our Lord for the years we were blessed to have her. The Family is being assisted in Durham by Clements Funeral Service.

ROUGEMONT: Mr. Michael Dale Jacobs, 21, died Monday at his home. Mr. Jacobs was born in Durham, the son of Trena Lancaster Price and Wayne Thomas Jacobs. He was employed by Dan O’Briant Plumbing. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Tom Jacobs.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Jacobs is survived by his grandmother, Shirley Jacobs; daughter, Alexis Nichole Jacobs; aunt, Kelly Jacobs; and uncle, Dale Jacobs.

DOROTHY “DOT” JUANITA SHAMBLEY
Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Juanita Shambley, 77, a resident of Mt. Hermon Church Rd., died Saturday evening at the Brian Center. Mrs. Shambley was the daughter of the late Avie Weaver Greenhill and the late Eugene McKinley Greenhill. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Byrd Shambley; a brother, Jesse Greenhill; and a sister Margie Hamm. She was retired from the Durham Public Schools and previously worked for Liggett and Myers Tobacco Co. Mrs. Shambley was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church.
A Graveside Service will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Stanley-Shambley Family Cemetery by Dr. Jerry Harper. The family will receive friends at Clements Funeral Home Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

HILLSBOROUGH: Mrs. Hazel Combs Blake, 82, died Friday at her home. Mrs. Blake was born and reared in Orange County, the daughter of the late Rosie Mae Hamlett Combs and Doctor Benjamin Harrison Combs. Mrs. Blake was married to the late Reid Blake, who served in many locations during his career in the US Air Force. They both settled in Las Vegas before she returned to Hillsborough in 2006 to be close to her family. Mrs. Blake was loved and cared for by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Steve Blake; sister, Grace Shelton; and brother Bill Combs.
Mrs. Blake is survived by her sister, Geneva Combs Justice of Hillsborough; brothers, Donnie Combs of Graham, and Wayne “T.B.“ Combs of Hillsborough.

CREEDMOOR: Mr. Max B. Sharpe, 66, died Friday at his home. Mr. Sharpe was born in Alamance Co., the son of the late LaVerne Howell Sharpe Guthery and Max Sharpe. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mr. Everette Dewey Sharpe, Sr. Mr. Sharpe was employed by IBM and prior to that was employed at Owens-Illinois. He was an avid fisherman and a former member of Durham Bassmasters.
A graveside service will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens by Rev. Roger Wall. The family will receive friends at Clements Funeral Home on Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

GREENSBORO: Ms. Silvia “Bettie” Cook, 85, passed away late Thursday afternoon at Blumenthal Jewish Nursing and Rehab Center in Greensboro NC. Ms. Cook was born Chester PA, the daughter of the late George W. Bell, and Laura Norton Bell. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Jackson Cook.
Ms. Cook worked for E.I. Harding & Co in Richmond VA as a CPA for 30 years, and was a life long member of Carr United Methodist Church in Durham.
Bettie is survived by 2 step daughters, Elizabeth Smith and husband, Frank; and Margaret Fowler and husband, Billy; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service is scheduled for Monday, August 17, 2009 at Maplewood Cemetery. There is no visitation planned.

Katie Sue Sanford, 65, died Wednesday morning at Newport News, Virginia after an extended illness. Ms. Sanford was born in Durham, daughter of the late Ralph Sanford and Haseltine Rice Sanford, who survives. She was a Hairdresser for many years and was a very creative person. Her skills and talents will be missed. Katie was very much an outdoor adventuress. She loved camping and hiking.
A Funeral Service will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Tom Greener and Rev. Bess Hunnings-Smith. Burial will follow in Mt. Sylvan United Methodist Church Cemetery.

DURHAM: Mrs. Frances Jeanette White Parker, 76, died peacefully Wednesday night at her home surrounded by her family and friends. She was born in Granville Co., the daughter of the late Mable Ray Freeman White and the late Larry Caton White, Sr. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by IBM. Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Irving Parker; a son, Michael C. King, Sr.; brother, Larry Caton White, Jr.; and sisters, Jocile King, Goldie Barndt and Cathryn Wicker.
Mrs. Parker is survived by two daughters, Darleen K. Pitts and husband, Deral, of Durham and Karen K. Watson and husband, Kelly, of Hillsborough; son, Jeff Jenkins and wife, Wendy, of Kernersville; step son, Jeffrey Alan Parker of Greensboro; nine grandchildren: Todd Pitts, Denise Pitts, Patricia Wynne, Jennifer Anderson, Alex Jenkins, Morgan Jenkins, Mike King, Jr., Jason King and Justin Maas; six great grandchildren; sisters, Brenda Jackson and Linda Shaw, both of Durham; sister in law, Dorothy White and a very special companion, William “Bill” Grice, Sr.
